Cette minisérie retrace l'histoire vraie de la famille Broberg dont la lle ainée Jan a été kidnappée à plusieurs reprises lorsqu'elle était enfant dans les années 70 par leur voisin Robert Berchtold. En s'immisçant dans leur vie et en devenant un proche de la famille, il est parvenu à manipuler les Broberg et à retourner Jan contre ses parents.
